All nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair—
The bees are stirring—birds are on the wing—
And Winter slumbering in the open air,
Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring!
And I the while, the sole unbusy thing,
not honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing.
When Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote those lines of poetry that cold February morning, 1825, one might be tempted to think that he had a bottle of wine on his mind. After all, there's little else as enjoyable when you're unbusy.
However, we consider it rather differently. You see, Coleridge wants to make honey; he wants to pair, and build, and sing. That's where we come in. The Birds and the Bees Meadery was born of a desire to make the world a little bit sweeter. Through the crafting of artisal-quality honey wines, we'd like to make you the sole unbusy thing.
We were founded upon the philosophy that there's no better way to spend one's energy than by making people happy. After cracking open our history books, we learned that honey wine has been making people happy for longer than the wheel has existed. Well, why reinvent the figurative wheel?
We make mead from the combination of honey, water, and yeast. That's it.
Okay, sometimes we add other tasty stuff—fruits, spices, that sort of thing.
We turn our experience in the kitchen into unique drink experiences that you won't find elsewhere. We're motivated by a drive to build something both strange and familiar;
both old and new.
Showcases of the finest in single-source honeys in concert with the most cutting-edge yeast profiles. When you're working within the limitations of a traditional mead, every ingredient must be thoughtfully considered.
As the gates open to more ingredients, new horizons in flavor unfold. Let our experience perparing pistachio nutella cannoli translate into something wonderful for your palette.
Look, we're trying to push the boundary a little bit. Let us do the hours of research into the cutting edge of lactic-acid-producing yeast strains and form hypotheses about our comparitive VOC analysis. You just test the results.
Given enough time, you should see us around. look for us at farmers markets in the summertime and online the rest of the year. Make sure to send us your email so we can keep you updated on the progress.
We are targeting an early 2024 launch. In the meantime, feel free to reach out with any questions or comments. We'd love to get in touch! Even if it's not to talk about wine. Even if it's just to, I dunno, chat about stuff.
